Currencies

ChargeOver allows you to invoice in multiple currencies, other than USD. You will need to enable each of your accepted currencies and make sure the rest of your instance is configured properly.

note

Before you start, it's important you confirm with your payment processor what currencies they can process. Contact your payment processor to confirm they support and your account is configured to accept multi-currency.

  1. From your Settings, select Invoicing from the left menu
  1. Next, find the "What Currencies Do you Accept?" box and enter in all of the currencies you plan on accepting.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Check with your payment gateway first, to make sure your payment gateway allows multi-currency and it's configured for you
  • If you are using Xero or QuickBooks, you will want to enable multi-currency in Xero/QuickBooks
  • You should check your payment gateway configuration in ChargeOver, to ensure the currencies are connected to your gateway

QuickBooks

Enable multi-currency in your QuickBooks settings.

Each customer in QuickBooks will be assigned a specific currency. You cannot change the currency once the customer is created. If you need to, you can recreate them as a new customer instead.

ChargeOver will send customers, invoices, and payments to QuickBooks in their respective currency. If an invoice is $100 CAD in ChargeOver, you will see it as $100 CAD in QuickBooks.

ChargeOver automatically tracks the current exchange rate between your home currency, and any foreign currencies. This data is updated automatically on a daily basis. ChargeOver will send the exchange rates to QuickBooks so you can see these in QuickBooks.

Xero

ChargeOver will send customers, invoices, and payments to Xero in their respective currency. If an invoice is $100 CAD in ChargeOver, you will see it as $100 CAD in Xero.

ChargeOver automatically tracks the current exchange rate between your home currency, and any foreign currencies. This data is updated automatically on a daily basis. ChargeOver will send the exchange rates to Xero so you can see these in Xero.

Your Bank Account

Talk to your payment processor or gateway about how they handle currency conversion, and how they handle multi-currency deposits. This varies from processor to processor.

Some gateways/processors will convert all of the currencies to your home currency, and do a single-currency deposit for you. Others may require you to have multiple bank accounts (one per currency) and deposit each currency separately.

Your Payment Processor

Talk to your payment processor or gateway about how they handle multi-currency.

It varies on what gateways/processors require for multi-currency. Some require different things like

  • No configuration
  • You to call them to enable multi-currency
  • You to have a separate bank account per currency
  • You sign up for a second merchant account, fill out additional paperwork, or obtain a separate set of payment gateway credentials specific to each currency
